Tourism Marketing & Communications

MTA Tourism Leisure specialises in strategic marketing communications, destination development, destination representation and PR consultancy services to the tourism and hospitality industry – in the UK and South Africa.

Set up in 2000 by Mary Tebje who had worked at a senior level in customer experience and marketing management for leading London-based visitor attractions
.

Some clients have said that if Mary was cut in half, there would be a line through the middle that says "tourism & leisure", just like a stick of Brighton Rock.

We are small, dedicated and understand how tourism works. Almost all of our projects come from word of mouth recommendation, so we must be doing something right. We are always professional in our approach, and most of all, we enjoy our work!

Successful Projects Include

Provided marketing expertise for a number of new tourism products under development in and around the Stratford area of east London, expected to come online in 2013.

Working with local suppliers and the Chilterns Conservation Board on a number of destination development projects, including being an integral part of the new Chilterns Tourism Network.

Supporting Destination Greenwich, host borough for London 2012 with the training of volunteers to become the new London Greeters. Based on the Big Apple Greeters, this group of volunteers is made up of local residents who have a passion and in-depth knowledge of their local area. Book a Greeter on VisitEastLondon.com or contact me to talk about how to do the same in your destination.

Continued development and management of the destination website VisitEastLondon.com to provide editorially-led visitor information for east London - a challenging and fast-changing urban environment and location for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Now into the third successful year of supporting Cape Town Tourism as the UK Media and Travel Trade Representative, working on a number of new projects. Mary will be visiting Cape Town in March to undertake a number of product inspections and training.

Lianne Burton, Cape Town Tourism’s Head of Marketing says the appointment signalled an exciting new phase in Cape Town Tourism’s commitment to proactively grow Cape Town’s international profile.  “With a desire to continually improve Cape Town’s compelling destination brand and tourism offering, we sought an agency with fresh ideas, enthusiasm, and a thorough understanding of our beautiful city and our source markets. The 2010 FIFA World Cup is Cape Town’s window of opportunity, and we are intent on sending out a clear message about what to expect in Cape Town during the 2010 FIFA World Cup, but we are also mindful that the most important driver for tourism is long-term sustainability.”

Managed the communication, stakeholder engagement and audience development when running the Destination Marketing Organisation TourEast London. We knew our work was completed when one of our visitor clusters is now billed as a "must see" for visitors to London.

Delivery of the successful web-based consumer campaign “London Treasures” with the Tourism Network in which visitors to London were invited to explore off the beaten track and go where the locals go. This campaign is being updated and will be launched at Easter 2011.

Extensive event management of both large and small consumer-facing event programmes and industry conferences.

The development and compilation of the first Positioning and Marketing Guide for (east) London aimed at tourism stakeholders to help them access the wider destination marketing activity.

Comprehensive PR strategies and action plans for clients that involved the development and targeted delivery of press campaigns, press visits, feature angles for consumer, travel trade and industry media.

Delivering bespoke master classes for tourism suppliers: including customer welcome, product and destination training, career guidance and workshop facilitation.

Developed and delivered one of the first successful London Local Residents' campaigns to show off some of east London's hidden gems.

We are often asked to contribute to the wider industry consultations, research programmes and to speak at industry events.
